Taking on the mantle of Batman is one of the bigger things an actor can do with their time, regardless of what medium it's in.

Whether it's Christian Bale's brooding performance in The Dark Knight trilogy or the late Kevin Conroy's iconic turn as the character in the Arkham games, if you end up playing the Caped Crusader then people are likely to pay attention.

Now, a new actor is set to take on the role for the first time, and we're willing to bet a lot of you will have missed it.

Over on Twitter/X, voice actor Shai Matheson confirmed that they are set to voice Batman in the upcoming release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Developed by Traveller's Tales, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the fifth instalment in the series, though the team behind the game is yet to reveal exactly where the story will take us or how it connects to the previous games.

The game will feature many of the tools that make the character so iconic, including his grapple launcher and Batglider. In great news for design fans, it also features a fully customisable Batcave, where you'll be able to show off the different vehicles the game has to offer, as well as any collectibles you manage to pick up.

There is also a complete co-op mode that allows Batman to team up with an ally, chosen from iconic characters like Robin and Jim Gordon.

One thing that is definitely true is that DC Comics president Jim Lee is more than happy with where the story has gone, sharing a statement on the upcoming release.

"“Whether he’s the wrathful Dark Knight, the brilliant detective, or the unlikely father of the ‘Batfam,’ Batman has constantly evolved—shaped by the world around him while remaining a timeless symbol," he said.

This game brings together nearly every facet of his legacy, letting you experience the full range of what makes Batman iconic. Built with incredible care, creativity, and deep respect for the mythos ,TT Games has crafted a love letter to the world of Batman.”

Shai Matheson himself has worked on several notable video game titles, including Until Dawn and Star Wars Outlaws. He has even appeared in LEGO games before now, most recently in LEGO Horizon Adventures.

There's no specific release date for the game as of yet, though we do know that it will be at some point in 2026.
