Red Dead Redemption 2 free Mexico expansion announced for next month

One player has done what Rockstar Games never will. Next month, PC users will be able to enjoy a new Mexico expansion, adding an explorable version of Nuevo Paraíso to Red Dead Redemption 2.

It’s criminal, really, that Rockstar Games never invested in creating single-player DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2, instead choosing to focus on the ill-fated Red Dead Online.

The fact that a new-gen upgrade is yet to even exist for Red Dead Redemption 2, almost six years into this console generation, simply rubs salt in the wound.

Thankfully, the game boasts one of the most professional modding communities out there, even if its wares are only available on PC.

The newly released ‘Mafia 1899’ is proving to be a huge hit, adding tonnes of new missions, features, and activities.

In fact, it features a whopping 13 mission types, with the assassinations proving to be so fun that players have asked for it to be made into its own mode.

That mod is completely free and will keep you occupied in the meantime, as you’re going to need to wait until September for the aforementioned Mexico mod.

As spotted by SynthPotato on Twitter/X, YouTuber Rixus is gearing up to release ‘Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraíso - The Forgotten Frontier’ which has locked in a launch date of September 16.

Mexico isn’t an accessible location within Red Dead Redemption 2 unless you make use of glitches to reach out-of-bounds locations.

However, the Mexican town of Nuevo Paraíso did indeed feature in the first Red Dead Redemption.

Creator Rixus has subtly updated Nuevo Paraíso to make it fit within Red Dead Redemption 2’s 1907 setting.

“Explore a Mexico on the brink of change, where beautiful landscapes and growing settlements stand alongside political unrest, government oppression, and a population struggling under an increasingly unstable regime,” reads a description of the mod.

Players who download the mod expansion will be able to “discover new settlements, hidden locations, activities, encounters, mysteries, easter eggs, wildlife, local people, classic characters, and dangers as you travel across the state”.

As such, this isn’t just a pretty backdrop to wander around. Nuevo Paraíso will be teeming with activity and life, just as Rockstar’s base game is.

The location will have plenty of settlements within it, “from its quiet towns and remote ranches to its railways, bandit hideouts, and territories under government control”.

You’ll be able to travel by train (and rob them), trade with vendors, take on gang hideouts, uncover Easter eggs, and much much with this mod pushing Nuevo Paraíso beyond “its original boundaries”.

There’s not long to wait until launch, with, again, ‘Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraíso - The Forgotten Frontier’ landing on September 16.

It’ll be made available via NexusMods, so it goes without saying that it’s a PC exclusive, plus you’ll need a valid copy of Red Dead Redemption 2.

It looks awesome, but here’s to hoping that Rockstar Games doesn’t nuke it with a DMCA takedown.
