The release of Insomniac Games' Wolverine is set to be one of the early contenders for game of the year in 2026, combining the developer's own inimitable style with the brutal combat we expect from everyone's favourite adamantium-infused mutant.
In the relatively limited look we have had so far, there has been all the hacking, slashing and beating that fans of the comics or films would expect, and if they can get the feel of the combat right, we might finally have the Wolverine game we've been waiting all our lives for.
Now, obviously things can all change very quickly and issues with development can arise at any moment, but what many won't have been banking on is the massive effect that GTA VI's delay could have on proceedings.
Claims have been made online that other games may now move their launches upwards, so they can avoid being in the same awards' season as GTA VI. Fortunately, it seems Insomniac Games are ploughing on regardless, confident enough in their own project to keep it right on track.

Wolverine Release Date Remains On Track
Over on Twitter/X, the official page for developer Insomniac Games confirmed that the game is still set to arrive in Fall 2026, shortly before the new release date for GTA VI in November.
"Don't miss a shred of information. Wishlist Marvel's Wolverine, coming Fall 2026," the post reads.

The ripple effect from the GTA VI news is going to be fairly monumental, and it wouldn't be surprising if we got a lot of high profile releases in September or October of next year, as developers scramble to release their project before Rockstar's next effort inevitably gobbles up all of the attention.
That doesn't even take into account the annual releases that drop around that time of year, including the ever-present Call of Duty and beloved football franchise EA FC, now with a much less catchy and memorable name.
Whilst many will be doing their best to avoid GTA, that could easily create a logjam that sees several other high-profile releases clash with one another, creating an entirely new problem for their potential success and revenue.
Whatever does happen in the end, next year is set to be an absolutely bumper one for players across the world, with it even having the potential to outdo the stellar year we've enjoyed in 2025. Just spare a thought for those of us who have to cover all of it.
