The latest update on the upcoming Sony-exclusive title Marvel’s Wolverine is getting fans excited, and for good reason.

God knows how, but it's already been four whole years since Insomniac Games and Sony announced Marvel's Wolverine (alongside Marvel’s Spider-Man 2) for the PlayStation 5 at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase.

However, since then, we haven’t heard or seen anything from the upcoming Marvel game… from official sources, at least.

In December 2023, Insomniac Games was subjected to a ransomware hack by a group going by the name of Rhysida. The ransomware group stole a bunch of info from Insomniac Games' private servers, including in-development gameplay footage of Marvel's Wolverine.

The footage eventually found its way online, but I’m not going to share that with you here– or anywhere, for that matter. Obviously, there are legal ramifications to doing such a thing, but personally, I don’t think the devs deserve to have their work shared around like that (especially when it’s not indicative of the final product).

This was the last glimpse we got of Marvel's Wolverine, and it would seem that the ransomware attack may have inspired Insomniac Games to hold off on revealing anything further until the game is complete.

That time may be upon us however, as Tom Henderson just revealed on the Insider Gaming Podcast that “playtesters think [Marvel’s Wolverine] looks fantastic”.

Over on the r/GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, a post detailing the news is almost unanimously littered with excited posts from those who have seen the leaked footage from the game.

That being said, this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be able to get your hands on the game ASAP. Playtesting is a long, laborious process.

If they’re nearing the end of the playtesting phase, it’s possible that we’ll get our hands on the game as early as Q1 of 2026. If they’re just starting the playtesting phase… well then I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re looking at the end of 2026, or even the start of 2027.

Regardless, it’s still good news. I hope that the game lives up to the hype, because Insomniac Games deserves the win. Plus, maybe they can move on to that rumoured DLC for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 once they’re done…
