Insomniac Games is reportedly preparing to once again unveil Marvel’s Wolverine.
The highly anticipated title hasn’t been seen since it was initially revealed at a PlayStation Showcase in December of 2021.
Certainly, we’ve always been aware that the title wouldn’t land until after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which arrived in 2023.
Even still, that means we’ve been waiting four years in total for an update, and given how brief that initial cinematic teaser was, one is long overdue.

Well, according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, a new trailer is ready to drop.
His sources claim that it could land as soon as this month as a State of Play is supposedly scheduled for late September.
If not, it’s possible the trailer will be held back for The Game Awards.
Everybody is celebrating this development and understandably so; this is a game so many of us have been itching to see more of.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel a tad sad though at what this news implies.
Anyone who’s played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will know that it was quite clearly setting up a series of DLC expansions with its side quests, much like Marvel’s Spider-Man did ahead of The City That Never Sleeps.
That consisted of The Heist, Turf Wars, and Silver Lining.
With regards to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, its main side quests appeared to set up a Carnage DLC, a Chameleon DLC, and something concerning the Spider-Verse.

I’m not going to spoil the exact contents of each set-up; I implore you to see all that the game has to offer.
It seemed pretty obvious though that these loose plot threads would once again be wrapped up in three-part DLC - and the ransomware attack that hit Insomniac in December of 2023 appeared to confirm as much.
In fact, files pertaining to Beetle-related content were also unearthed.
This was around the time many of us expected the DLC to be unveiled or announced as the original game’s expansion landed not too long after the base game’s launch.

Alas, nothing happened and as time has gone on, fans have come to speculate that perhaps the planned DLCs were cancelled as a consequence of the ransomware leak.
Considering Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dropped two years ago, it’s been looking like that’s the case for a while, but surely the imminent reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine is the final nail in the coffin?
I just can’t see this delayed content being dredged up when a shiny new era awaits which is devastating, really, because what Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 set up seemed pretty great.
I’m imagining that this content will be reused in Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 instead, which is yet to be officially announced.

It would be a travesty to just pretend this all never happened; you can’t just introduce Carnage and then act oblivious.
Let’s hope Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 brings everything we’ve been waiting for.
