GTA 4 Next-Gen Remaster Looks Good as New, Rockstar Take Note

If Rockstar won't do it, they will

Grand Theft Auto IV has finally received the remaster it deserves thanks to a dedicated fanbase. It looks like a new-gen release.

Recently Rockstar Games launched a new-gen port of the first Red Dead Redemption, allowing players to relive the story of John Marston with better resolution, framerate and DLC included.

It had a few teething problems though as free upgrades were promised to those who already owned the game on Xbox, though many users have reported that they’ve been unable to claim their freebie.

Another off-shoot of the Red Dead Redemption discourse has raised a very good point though, why haven’t we had a remastered port of Grand Theft Auto IV yet?

Nowadays it’s not a very pretty game to look at but it holds up when it comes to gameplay.

I’d even argue it was ahead of its time as some details of its open-world can’t be found in Grand Theft Auto V, and I’d be surprised if they made their way into Grand Theft Auto VI despite its scope and scale.

Fortunately while Rockstar Games delays more than just the next Grand Theft Auto game there are fans out there who are dedicated to a cause. A cause to give an undisputed classic the love it deserves.

A mod by Xoxor4d gives GTA IV an admirable makeover and it goes above and beyond what Rockstar would probably do with the game if it ever planned to re-release it.

This RTX Remix mod has existed for some time now but Xoxor4d had it locked behind a pay-wall. That pay-wall has since been lifted so more PC users than ever can download it and play.

The general consensus is that it’s a great mod if not for a few flaws. The shadows and lighting are the main criticism and in some areas it just can’t compete with the original PC release of the game.

Nevertheless the effort is there and it’s nice to see there are fans out there who still love GTA IV, and want to see it get a new lease on life with a remaster.

For the fans waiting for an official re-release though I’m afraid you’ve still got a long wait ahead of you.

GTA VI is obviously the big thing over at Rockstar and the re-release of Red Dead Redemption implies that Red Dead Redemption 2 might be the next game to get the new-gen treatment.

We’re not complaining though as it’s about time it got an enhanced port.
