Grand Theft Auto VI is taking so long to come out that we might see the return of a long-extinct bird first.
Rockstar Games must feel like the Van der Linde gang from Red Dead Redemption with how they’re having to duck their fans.
We’ve been waiting for another Grand Theft Auto game for years and while we can all accept that games aren’t made overnight the extended wait has definitely been getting to some of us.
GTA 6 has been delayed twice, three times if you’ve been paying attention, and is now due to release in November 2026 provided Rockstar doesn’t have any other nasty surprises up their sleeves.

During that wait period, and we’re not kidding on this, scientific breakthroughs have occurred that may finally lead to the revival of the dodo bird. We wish we were kidding.
We all know the “we got X before GTA VI” meme but this is ridiculous.

For those not familiar with humanity’s quest to bring back the flightless bird, scientists have been playing around with genetics and plan to release flocks of them into the wild once the code has been cracked.

The latest discovery revealed that chickens could be potential surrogates, as while a specific breed of pigeon are the closest living relative to the dodo bird there are chickens that can accept the germs from these birds and pass them down to their offspring.
There’s more to it than that obviously, but those are the layman’s terms we're going to stick with. This isn't a science journal, after all.
With a bit of luck these findings will officially bring dodos back from the dead, hopefully for good this time.
Humorously though this is all happening before the release of GTA VI.

It’s ironic too because if the original release date was met the game would be out by now and would have missed all of this.
Now we’re not saying there’ll be millions of dodo birds walking around by the time Rockstar Games is ready to drop the game, but we are saying it’s really funny that the game has taken this long, even funnier if it gets delayed again.
Word on the street is that’s not going to happen though, as the game’s new release date of November 2026 is the one it’ll stick with it.
How strange would it be if by the time GTA VII comes out Rockstar Games has to include dodos as part of the open-world’s eco-system?
