The RTX Remix mod for Grand Theft Auto IV now has a public release, and it’s gorgeous.

GTA IV is one of Rockstar Games’ best titles. That gloomy yet cosy depiction of New York City is just far too inviting to ignore, and it’s got us revisiting the game even nearly 20 years later.

We’ve reported on modder xoxor4d’s GTA IV RTX Remix remaster many times over the last few months, and fans can now enjoy it in full thanks to its new public release.

The Path Tracing RTX Remix Mod for GTA IV does exactly what it says on the tin by adding real-time path tracing to GTA IV to give it a bit of a modern makeover.

This means the game has improved reflections and lighting, making outdoor scenes particularly gorgeous. It’s a must-have for anyone who plans to replay GTA IV, and could very well be the definitive experience of the game.

Check out some gameplay of the RTX Remix mod for GTA IV below, and marvel at its glory. Instructions on how to play it are included alongside the download link, which can be found here.

Is Rockstar Games Working On An Official GTA 4 Remaster?

Having this free option for PC gamers is one thing, but fans have been waiting for years on an official GTA IV remaster.

Advert

The rumour is that Rockstar Games has a GTA IV remaster in the works, which will bring the game to modern platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and possibly Nintendo Switch.

We first heard these rumours back in May, where Rockstar insider Tez2 noted that it may have been in development for around a year and was targeting a late 2025 release.

Rockstar then accidentally leaked a potential GTA IV remaster by listing ‘PS4’ as a potential platform on its support page, owing to the credibility of this leak.

The mistake was quickly rectified, but not before we all saw it and screenshots were shared across the internet.

With a month to go until 2026, it’s looking extremely unlikely that we’ll see an official GTA IV remaster drop before the end of the year. Still, there’s always the chance that Rockstar may release it in early 2026 as a way to tide us over until GTA VI in November.

In the meantime though, at least we have the RTX Remix Path Tracing mod to enjoy.
