Grand Theft Auto IV’s RTX Remix remaster has seen a lot of buzz over the last few months since its release, and this new update has elevated it even further.

We’ve covered the fan-made GTA IV remaster several times over the last year, and it remains one of our favourite RTX Remix mods thanks to how much it transforms the original game’s graphics while also retaining the art style.

It’s great to see that even months after the mod’s release though, developers are still continuing to support through new updates and addons which work right out of the box.

A new HD Texture Pack by modder DarkoRTX has been released for GTA IV’s RTX Remix Path Tracing mod, bringing enhanced textures and material definition for different surfaces.

This includes additional PBR maps, along with manual refinements for better RTX lighting. It should mean the game looks a lot crisper, and closer to how this type of environment would look in reality.

This New Texture Pack For GTA IV Looks Incredible, But It's Currently Only Restricted To One Area

Before you get too excited, this new texture pack is currently restricted to the buildings, roads, and pavement surfaces of the South Bohan Apartment area of GTA IV’s Liberty City, with plans to expand as the modder enhances more textures.

The pack includes textures for both 2K and 4K resolutions, meaning those playing on higher-end systems will be able to squeeze more juice out of your graphics cards.

However, even playing with 2K textures will result in a notable improvement over vanilla, considering the base game version of GTA IV shipped with textures that didn’t exceed 1K.

These new textures come with additional surface maps, using metallic, depth, and roughness as metrics to give them a bit of authenticity. This also allows them to react more naturally to RTX Remix lighting.

If you’re interested in checking out the new textures, you can go ahead and download DarkoRTX’s texture pack from Nexus Mods now. A more in-depth version of the mod is also available from their Patreon page.

We’d recommend keeping an eye on this page for further updates to the mod, with new areas and surfaces supported in future releases to give Liberty City the kind of modern-gen refresh it deserves.

On the other hand, hopefully the buzz surrounding this mod kicks Rockstar Games into gear to create an official GTA IV remaster for modern systems.
