Today is finally the day that Red Dead Redemption makes its way to mobile and current generation consoles but in even better news, it is free to play for millions.
First released back in 2010 as the second title in the Red Dead series, Red Dead Redemption followed the story of the iconic John Marston, a former outlaw, who must save his wife and son after they are kidnapped by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun.
As with many other Rockstar Games’ titles, Red Dead Redemption was a hit and is widely regarded as a modern-day classic, so it is perhaps no surprise that it has finally made its way to more contemporary platforms.
“On December 2, the epic Western adventures Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will be available for the latest mobile devices and on current generation consoles — with free upgrades, the ability to carry over game progress, and a number of enhancements,” the official Rockstar blog post reads.

Taking place after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, the brand-new Red Dead Redemption release will feature both the single-player campaign of the John Marston saga and Undead Nightmare alongside bonus content from its Game of the Year Edition.
Alongside Red Dead Redemption’s launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch 2, it will also arrive on Netflix, iOS, and Android.
Best of all, this means it will now be free to play for millions.

How To Play For Free
Those with a Netflix subscription (Netflix Games is available on PC and mobile) will be able to download and play Red Dead Redemption for absolutely free from today, 2 December, onwards.

The newest version of Red Dead Redemption is also free for PlayStation Plus Extra members as of today; you do not need a prior copy of the game.
That being said, if you do already own the hit title on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch or the digital backward compatible version on the Xbox One, you will be able to upgrade digitally for free.
“Anyone who owns the PS4 version can utilise previous PS4 save data to pick up where they left off, and Switch 2 players can continue with their previous save data from the previous Nintendo Switch console," said Rockstar.
With the new version promising a “number of enhancements”, players can expect a 60fps experience and a vast improvement on the hit 2010 title.
