A RoboCop Video Game Is In Development, Looks Like A Love-Letter To Original Movies

Well, this is a surprise: a brand-new RoboCop game is in development and is set to release at some point in 2023. Revealed during last night's Nacon Direct show, RoboCop: Rogue City looks like a genuine love letter to the original 80's movies.

While the debut trailer didn't give very much away, we were treated to a look at Old Detroit, as well as a look at RoboCop's iconic service pistol, and a quick reference to OCP (Omni Consumer Products). Take a look for yourself below:

"Become the iconic hero whose part man, part machine, all cop as you attempt to bring justice to the dangerous, crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit in RoboCop: Rogue City," reads the trailer's description.

RoboCop: Rogue City is to be published by Nacon, and is being developed by Teyon, the studio behind 2019's not terribly good Terminator: Resistance. Still, we're hopeful the team has learned a lot over the last couple of years, and that this new RoboCop adventure will be one to remember.

As far as the plot is concerned, Teyon teases a "new story" based on the original three movies. For those that weren't alive in the 80s (or just never cared about RoboCop), the films follow Detroit police officer Alex Murphy as he becomes a fearsome robotic crime-fighter following a horrific injury. The trilogy presented a pretty clear criticism of consumerism at the time, so we'd hope this new game has a few things of its own to say. Lord knows capitalism hasn't exactly chilled out since the late 80s.

There's no word on platforms for RoboCop: Rogue City just yet, but if it's not releasing until 2023 we'd imagine PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC are all safe bets. It'll probably still hit PlayStation 4 and Xbox One too. Watch this space.
