The surprising video game Tom Holland played while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming

Tom Holland continues to be Hollywood's golden boy, and in a stellar run for 2026, he's tied the knot with Zendaya and is set to lead two of the year's biggest movies in the form of The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While Christopher Nolan's historical epic and Destin Daniel Cretton's superhero spectacular couldn't be further apart in terms of themes, both are predicted to crack a billion at the box office.

Brand New Day is being praised by many as the best Spider-Man movie since 2004's Spider-Man 2, which is high praise indeed.

Still, it marks a milestone for the Spider-Verse, as Tom Holland is the first actor to lead four movies of his own.

Tobey Maguire steered the ship of Sam Raimi's OG trilogy, although plans for Spider-Man 4 fell through and left Andrew Garfield to take over for two Amazing Spider-Man outings.

Holland made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and quickly got his own standalone for 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Homecoming is a beloved entry to the MCU, and while we're sure Holland has plenty of stories from the set, it sounds like there was a fair bit of waiting around.

Despite the clue being in the name and Spider-Man featuring a lot, the cast of Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., and Marisa Tomei means it was quite the ensemble.

Speaking to Screen Rant in 2022, Holland recalled playing Uncharted on Homecoming's set while the crew was setting up for the iconic Washington Monument scene.

Discussing his love of Naughty Dog's treasure hunting adventure, Holland said: "Yeah, it's kind of crazy. I just remember shooting Spider-Man: Homecoming. We were shooting the sequence where Spider-Man falls through the uh... what's that big, tall, pointy thing called? The Washington Monument! Sorry, sorry!

"We were waiting for the lighting to be set up, because there was some sort of gag they were doing, and we were like, 'Let's play Uncharted.' And then we basically completed it in like a week, because we were obsessed. The video game is so cinematic, and the story is so intriguing that it was obvious that it needed to be made into a film."

Was it this that spurred Holland's love for the series, because as you might remember, he went on to play Nathan Drake in Sony's live-action adaptation of Uncharted. Holland was officially cast in May 2017, with the rest of the cast rounded off by Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, and Sophia Ali.

There were plenty of vocal critics when it came to Uncharted, with Holland's casting being one of them. For many, both he and Wahlberg were 'too young' to be playing Nate and Sully.

Where's our Uncharted movie sequel?

While Uncharted didn't make Spider-Man: Homecoming numbers at the box office, it earned a pretty reasonable $407.1 million on a $120 million budget. Despite also boasting a paltry 41% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, fans seemed to like it much more, as it currently sits at 89%.

Director Ruben Fleischer expressed interest in a sequel, particularly pointing to a massive car chase from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End as a potential set piece. Wahlberg spoke about a script being written in December 2023, and in June 2024, Sony confirmed a sequel was in active development.

Things have gone suspiciously quiet since then, and although rumours swirled in early 2026 that it had been canned, it appears to be ongoing.

The biggest problem is likely Holland himself, with a packed schedule including the likes of The Odyssey and Brand New Day, he doesn't exactly have time to sit around and play video games, let alone squeeze in another Uncharted.

Still, there would be a sense of irony if he took some time to chill on the set of Uncharted 2 by playing the inevitable release of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man 3.
