To what will surprise no one, we’re getting a sequel to the live-action adaptation of the popular PlayStation exclusive series, Uncharted.

Starring Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor Sullivan, odd casting choices aside, Uncharted, an adaption of the popular series from Naughty Dog is a fun movie, considering the mostly poor history of live-action video game adaptations.

Sure, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg probably weren't most people's initial picks to play the beloved duo. Still, at the very least, Uncharted is an enjoyable popcorn movie, as long as you leave your brain in the cinema lobby and to be fair, it’s an ideal family action flick too.

What’s more, Uncharted also performed well at the worldwide box office garnering over $407 million (about £321 million), so Sony commissioning a sequel is about as likely as Thanos finger-snapping Spider-Man from all existence. Well, the inevitable has arrived and Uncharted 2 is officially on the way, as reported by Variety.

“Treasure hunter Victor "Sully" Sullivan recruits street-smart Nathan Drake to help him recover a 500-year-old lost fortune amassed by explorer Ferdinand Magellan,” reads the synopsis of the 2022 movie, Uncharted. “What starts out as a heist soon becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada can get his hands on it.

News of Uncharted 2 being confirmed by Sony was revealed during the build-up to the premiere of Saturday Night Live in the United States, which will return for its 49th season on 14 October 2024.

At this time, a release date for Uncharted 2 hasn't been announced and as far as we know, it hasn't started production yet. So it’s probably safe to assume that the release of Uncharted 2 is at least two years away at this point.

We’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear any further developments on the Uncharted 2 movie and in the meantime if you haven't already, go and play the PlayStation video game series, it’s awesome.
