For years, we’ve all been asking for dynamic themes.

While the PlayStation 5’s selection of themes pales in comparison to what was available on the PlayStation 4, it did just take yet another step in the right direction.

UI themes originally began surfacing on PlayStation last year in celebration of the company’s 30th anniversary.

Those retro-inspired themes were due to be time-limited but were eventually brought back permanently due to the high fan demand.

Since then, several other themes have joined the line-up and as per a new system update which has just stealth dropped, another has joined the ranks.

As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, the PlayStation 5’s latest update introduces a Monster Hunter Wilds theme, adding a high-res background to the PS5’s Welcome Hub for those who choose to use it.

Of course, this level of customisation isn’t quite what we experienced in the previous console generation where everything from icons to music would match our chosen theme.

Oh how I do miss my PS4 The Last of Us theme … Still, it’s nice that we can at least show our appreciation for certain franchises in a small way on PS5 consoles.

To access this theme, you’ll want to click on ‘Settings’, followed by ‘System’, then ‘Appearance’, and finally ‘Appearance and Sound’.

There, you can also browse the pre-existing available themes, including the returning fan-favourites from Sony’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

Personally, I won’t be shifting away from that PS1 theme. Every time I boot up my console, pure nostalgia courses through me.

It appears that the update is only just beginning to rollout so don’t panic if it hasn’t appeared on your console just yet.

It’s because of this that patch notes are not currently available but when they do drop, we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on whether the update features any other juicy new additions or features.
