PlayStation users are getting a new update for their PlayStation 5 that adds a feature Xbox has had for ages, but only just made it to Sony’s console.
Understandably PlayStation and Xbox don’t share all the same features when it comes to hardware but there are some things that just feel like they should be a given you know? For example why can I tune into Discord streams via my Xbox but can’t do the same thing on my PlayStation?
It’s very confusing, but as the months go on both consoles are starting to share more and more features, one of which should be available on your PlayStation 5 pretty soon.
It’s a new “Display Who’s Speaking” option for the PlayStation Party Chat, which will flash the icon of whoever’s speaking at the corner of your screen so you know which one of your friends is chatting, great for when you're squadding up to play Battlefield 6.

As you’ve probably gathered, Xbox has had this feature for quite some time, so it’s unclear why it’s taken PlayStation so long to catch up.

Personally, I’ve never really understood why this feature needs to exist in the first place but I suppose if there’s a party of 10 gamers all trying to talk at once you can at least keep track of who’s saying what.
My opinion aside it’s nice to see it get included, and it’s worth noting that Discord already has this feature, this is strictly for the PlayStation Party Chat.
At the time of writing there’s a bit of confusion surrounding who should have access to this new feature.
Beta participants are supposedly getting it as we speak but there are reports of those who can’t see it yet despite being enrolled into the beta.
This of course means regular PlayStation 5 users don’t have access to it, but they will soon enough when it’s added into the next firmware update.
What’s new in the world of PlayStation?
There are actually quite a few updates for PlayStation fans, as a State Of Play focusing on games from Japanese developers and publishers aired last night and revealed some exciting stuff, like a new Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC.
Also shown off last night was a new gaming monitor specifically for PlayStation fans, which will not only give you a crisp and clear display to play The Last Of Us on but also charge your controllers via a built-in charging dock, pretty fancy.
