A rumoured Resident Evil remake looks like it might have a highly requested feature that fans have wanted since the game was first released in 2002.
The game in question is Resident Evil Zero, which was first released on the Nintendo GameCube, the same year as the legendary remake of the original game, which may have worked against RE Zero, as it was a very tough act to follow, especially in such a short space of time.
Without giving too much away, Resident Evil Zero takes place before the events of the OG RE and stars two playable characters: S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member, Rebecca Chambers (who we first met in the OG), and escaped convict, Billy Coen.
For starters, many fans weren't happy with its inventory management system. While previous games let you carry a few items and store the rest in an item box, those item boxes didn't exist in Resident Evil Zero.
Instead, players had to drop items on the floor and remember where they had left them. Sure, the map told you where those items were. Yet, if you dropped a load of items in one place, the map screen became very cluttered, and it wasn't always easy to spot key items.

Secondly, having to control two characters felt clunky and, at times, unnecessary. It also felt odd that you had two playable characters in Rebecca and Billy, but there was no co-op function, which felt like a natural fit for Resident Evil Zero. Thankfully, however, according to a new rumour, that might not be an issue in an upcoming remake.

Firstly, let’s just make it clear, the Resident Evil Zero remake is a mere rumour at this time. So we should take all unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
As picked up by Instant Gaming News (via Marcox), it’s claimed that internal network tests at Capcom are running a new feature through the mill called “Invite Friend for Co-Op” and it’s got the codename “Project Chambers”, which of course draws comparisons to the aforementioned Rebecca Chambers.
This, of course, has triggered speculation that if the Resident Evil Zero remake were to happen, it would finally have online co-op. If this is true, it could mean that this ugly duckling entry could finally live up to its potential and fall into the good graces of fans.
The desire to finally have co-op in Resident Evil Zero is something that GAMINGbible’s Sam even wrote a feature about, so give that a read.
Again, this is all speculation at this point, and nothing has been confirmed by Capcom. If we hear any further developments on the rumoured Resident Evil Zero remake, we’ll be sure to let you know.
