GTA 6's relationship meter is causing real-life couple break-ups over 'cheating'

'Don't let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play Grand Theft Auto VI,' is the battle cry from some people as the new relationship and honour meters in Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster game are causing real couples to row over 'cheating' allegations.

Grand Theft Auto VI took a new path with its protagonists, opting for a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like power duo, rather than the notorious gangs of men and dimwitted plus-ones like Trevor.

Instead, Jason and Lucia are set to run amok in Vice City as they operate as a partnership to heist and steal, shoot and survive, and relax and enjoy the Miami culture.

One of the new features puts gamers' relationship abilities to the test, as both Jason and Lucia need to work hard at maintaining the love in their downtime, with trips to the strip club and ignoring texts putting a strain on the couple, while meals out and working out together puts them back on track - and, of course, there's bound to be some non-PG extra curriculum activities in the sack...

Now, some concerned partners are taking to social media to claim that the hand-holding, rumpy-bumpy bedroom dancing, and constant dates with Lucia should be perceived as cheating.

Lucia is putting huge relationship strains on GTA VI players

Lucia's storyline comes as one of the most intriguing elements of GTA VI, as the new character appears to be the mastermind behind the illegal activities that players will be undertaking. As for Jason- well, there are theories about whether he's all-in or has one foot in another business.

But with players working hard to keep the spark alive, one TikToker has claimed that they are banning their fiancé from playing the game and keeping another relationship alive.

"In absolutely no human way is my fiancé playing GTA VI," said TikTok user Shelby Haas. "You literally have to maintain a relationship with a girl in the video game and text her, and she'll get mad if you don't text her back. You have to take her on dates and you can have [sex] with her."

She also pointed out that there is even a full nudist beach in GTA VI alongside the usual strip clubs and bars, which 'partners' shouldn't be using.

"Don't let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA VI, absolutely not," she added.

Others claimed that 'Playing GTA VI is cheating,' as another TikToker added that it's an 'unpopular opinion' that they stand by.

There is the caveat that Rockstar revealed that you don't really have to keep up with the romance; it's actually optional.

While there are benefits to having a happy wife and a happy life, the game is designed so that Jason and Lucia will still have each other's backs even if they aren't seeing eye to eye - there just might be more features unlocked when the duo is at their peak.

Rockstar North co-studio head, Rob Nelson, suggested that you're more like a third-party in the relationship, determining if they have a happy life or not, rather than being immersed as one of the couple.

"When you bring them together, it feels like you’re a steward of their relationship, and you feel protective of them as a unit," he said in an interview with IGN.

"But this is something we did not know when we started, and it really had to be something we felt our way through.

"I will say that whether you’re getting in trouble, or you’re running from the cops, or getting in a car, or waiting for the other one - playing as them together feels very cool. It feels like you’re taking care of them, if that’s something you’re into."
