breaking news

The latest edition of State Of Play has drawn to a close and while it featured plenty of exciting announcements, it's perhaps an event that'll leave some feeling a tad disappointed.
Bloodborne was, once again, a no show, although FromSoftware did unveil Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollows, a new DLC arriving next month. That's something to look forward to.
Sadly, Astro Bot didn't turn up either; I'm sure plenty of you, like me, were hoping for some new levels.
The State of Play did, however, bring us an exciting hardware announcement.

Earlier today, it hit the headlines that the PS5 is, in fact, only halfway through its lifecycle with the PS6 thus reportedly further away than any of us thought.
That much has now been made abundantly clear as PlayStation has unveiled a stunning new piece of PS5 hardware.
You can soon enjoy a 27 Inch PlayStation Gaming Monitor which will totally revolutionise your gaming sessions.
The monitor is compatible both as something you can hook up to a console and a PC.

It boasts QHD resolution and HDR support, with a rate of up to 250Hz; when used with a PlayStation 5 console, a rate of up to 150Hz is supported.

The monitor boasts a sleek black and white design and even comes equipped with a handy hook situated underneath the monitor and it's here that you can hang, store, and change your DualSense Controller.
I know what you're wondering: "How much does it cost?"
It's not a cheap bit of kit
The new PlayStation Gaming Monitor has been confirmed to retail for ¥55,000.

Here comes the bad news. For now, the monitor will only launch in Japan and the USA. I have to say, I'm surprised to see such a limited rollout, but we can only hope that this limit on the hardware's availability is temporary.
USA pricing is yet to be confirmed at the time of writing, but ¥55,000 equates to roughly $357, so we're not talking a cheap bit of kit.
I do think this one might fly off the shelves though.
It's not a cheap monitor, no, but it's not the most expensive you'll find out there either.

You can find top brands charging triple what Sony is for a monitor, so the competitive pricing paired with Sony PlayStation branding could make for a winning formula.
PS5 games are known for being visually stunning, so it makes sense that many gamers will want to enhance that experience.
If you are based in Japan or the USA and fancy nabbing this kit, I'd keep a close eye on both social media and your territory's local PlayStation Direct store.
The monitor is confirmed to be launching in 2026.
