PlayStation revealed some new hardware yesterday though the reception to the new kit is mixed. Some love it, some hate it, and some are questioning why we’re getting it.
The DualSense- Icon Blue Special Edition was announced yesterday sporting a bold and bright blue design. It has no new or unique features compared to the default DualSense you’d get with your console, nor is it one of the more advanced DualSense Edge controllers, it’s just a basic DualSense but blue.
It’s not badly designed by any means and blue is definitely PlayStation’s colour but compared to previous controllers it’s a little boring.
Honestly I think everyone is suffering from controller fatigue as PlayStation and Xbox never seem to stop announcing new ones. Xbox even lets us design our own.

True special-edition controllers are a little different. For example the Astro Bot controllers feel like a must-buy for PlayStation fans, but then again you get some very poorly designed special-editions like the God Of War 20th Anniversary controller. That one looks like a basic white controller that someone has bled all over.
While the Icon Blue Special Edition looks nice many PlayStation fans have had enough, and the controller has even been roasted on some of the social media posts promoting it.
One in particular that really made me laugh was on the PlayStation Canada announcement post, which read: “Bro, you have more controller versions than games.”
Another comment read: “I will never understand the compulsion to vomit paint over the ENTIRE controller, leaving no detail uncolored, and no contrast to break up the mess of BLUE...add some black or grey buttons, SOMETHING!”

Other comments brought up the farce of buying a new controller for its design until to have it develop stick-drift a short time after purchase.
Another comment also pointed out that PlayStation regularly announces new controllers but rarely announces console plates. “When are we getting new options for PS5 Pro cover plates? Every quarter, a new controller is announced; meanwhile, the PS5 Pro has been out for nearly a year, and it has had a limited run of a single plate design.”
For those actually interested in buying the DualSense- Icon Blue Special Edition you’ll be able to order it later this month. It goes on sale on 20 October but no preorders are available yet.
