The device is priced at £74.99, but due to high demand, there is a limit of one controller per household.
If you pre-order it now, it should be on your doorstep just in time for a Halloween play session. Its official release date is currently listed for October 30, 2025.
If you don’t have any luck on PlayStation Direct this morning, the device is also available to pre-order from other participating retailers, including Amazon.

Much like its predecessor, the vibrant Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller is modelled after the Dual Speeder with its iconic white and blue design.
The signature accents feature on the handles and the buttons, and there’s a sweet nod to the gaming character on the back of the controller, too.
Instead of wide-open eyes on the Touch Pad, this Joyful edition has adorable, squinted eyes in a bright blue hue. It’s a sweet and personal touch that we’re utterly obsessed with.
Much like other PlayStation 5 wireless controllers, the Astro Bot offers immersive haptic feedback.

It also features a built-in microphone, supports multi-device connectivity, and includes a speaker delivering high-fidelity sound effects when playing compatible games.
You can connect a headset via the 3.5mm jack, switch voice capture on and off with the flick of a button, and charge and play with a built-in battery.
Other DualSense Wireless controllers available
If you don’t manage to get your mitts on the new Astro Boy Joyful device, then fear not - there are a handful of special controllers available to buy on PlayStation Direct instead.

These include the fun limited-edition Fortnite DualSense, featuring Fishtick and Peely on its handles (£74.99), a Ghost of Yotei controller in either black or gold (both £74.99), and a smart black and orange option celebrating the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (£74.99).

The DualSense wireless controller is also available in various colourways, including the futuristic Chroma Teal (£69.99), Galactic Purple (£64.99), and Volcanic Red (£69.99)
Where can you play Astro Bot?
Astro Bot by Sony Interactive Entertainment was released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive last September.

The single-player platformer is the fifth in the Astro Bot series and was originally published to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. It serves as the official follow-up to 2020’s Astro’s Playroom.
There is currently no confirmed release date for a PC version, and Sony has yet to reveal whether the game will debut on competing consoles like the Xbox or the Nintendo Switch 2.
So, if you want a slice of the action, you’ll need to grab yourself a PlayStation 5 or ask one of your friends very nicely if you can borrow their console.
Astro Bot and the new Joyful controller are available to purchase via PlayStation Direct.
