Fallout: New Vegas is getting the new-gen remaster we deserve

A reason to revisit the wasteland

Fallout: New Vegas is getting the remaster treatment, and it might just be the best thing we’ve seen all week.

One of the most wanted video game remasters of all time has been Fallout: New Vegas, which has remained a fan favourite for years since its original controversial release.

Although the game is still fun to play in 2025 and looks great, it certainly does look like a product of its time, and that’s where modern graphical advancements can come in.

YouTuber skurtyyskirts has posted a proof-of-concept video showing RTX Remix Path Tracing added to the 15-year-old game via modding.

As the name implies, the mod adds real-time path tracing to the game, as well as upscaled textures and better performance.

Check out the video for yourself below. The actual gameplay begins at 2:07, if you’d like to see how it looks in motion.

As you can see from the video, the light from the jukebox looks pretty incredible, and it feels like a modern remaster in the truest sense. If all interior cells look like this, the remaster has a lot going for it.

When the scene shifts to outside, this is where things might be a little more controversial. The “brown filter” the original Fallout: New Vegas is known for is gone, and it feels like a completely different kind of art style.

The ground textures seem a lot greyer now, more like concrete than wasteland dirt. It also seems a bit brighter, which also interferes with the atmosphere.

Some may like this change, and others may hate it. However, there’s no doubt that the additional lighting effects are really impressive, especially inside buildings.

It’s clear that the mod is still very early in development though, and will still need a few updates to get it to where it needs to be.

In similar news, we recently reported that several new Fallout projects are in development, including “one you've all been wanting”.

Whether that’s a New Vegas remaster or something else entirely remains to be seen.
