Fallout 3 players can now enjoy a brand new free quest mod that expands one of the game’s DLC expansions.
The Pitt remains as one of the more popular DLC chapters for Fallout 3, and this new quest mod adds a little more for you to do once you’ve completed the expansion.
Breaking the Chains is a new quest mod made by Fallout modder KuudereV, adding a new post-main quest option for The Pitt to do once you’ve hit the end of your playthrough.
The new quest is optional, but acts as a lore-friendly mission to do once you’ve hit the end of The Pitt. That means it doesn’t rewrite the DLC’s main quest, and will fit nicely alongside that storyline.

Breaking the Chains is centred around liberation of the slaves who live in Haven, with the majority of non-essential slave workers being removed from the world following the end of the DLC.
Any remaining NPCs are renamed from “Pitt Slave” to “Pitt Worker” to reflect their freed status, and they’re also swapped from slave outfits into wastelander clothing.

It also does a few other things, such as providing you with access to Haven after your chosen ending, in case the place ends up locked. This way, you won’t get stuck following the end of the DLC.
Breaking The Chains Is A Great Quest For Good Karma Fallout 3 Players
To start the quest, you need to have finished The Pitt first. Once that’s done, the quest will appear in your Pip-Boy.
Head to Haven and use the intercom to trigger the new liberation event.
Upon completion of the mod, you’ll earn 100 XP and also receive Good Karma, which isn’t a massive amount, but given the quest’s short length it’s a decent earning.
Be warned that if you use any mods which heavily restructure the population of The Pitt or Haven, you may experience conflicts due to both mods touching the same references.
If you want to check out Breaking the Chains for Fallout 3, you can download it now from Nexus Mods.
While many Fallout fans may be enjoying more recent entries like Fallout 4 or Fallout 76, it's still worth going back to check out those earlier entries in the series.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas still offer a lot to enjoy, and the original Fallout games from Interplay are also great.
