Fallout 5 Quietly Teased by Todd Howard, We're So Back

Give it to us now, Todd

It was a pretty cool day for fans of the post-apocalyptic yesterday (23 October) as Fallout Day returned for another year, bringing with it several announcements that should excite the community.

Bethesda took to the stage to confirm an anniversary edition of Fallout 4, featuring the base game, all of the DLC and more than 150 pieces of Creation Club content.

They also confirmed the release of a brand-new Fallout: New Vegas bundle that includes some pretty nifty physical goods, along with the game itself.

The sad news is that neither Fallout: New Vegas, nor Fallout 3 were confirmed for remasters/remakes, despite months of rumours swirling that they may be in the works.

Additionally, the company didn’t confirm anything about Fallout 5, leaving us vault enjoyers in the proverbial mud while we wait for more news. Bethesda Head Honcho Todd Howard did have the wherewithal to understand that this would likely upset some, so he did share a small tidbit that could mean the next game in the series is on the way.

I Do Want To Set The World On Fire

As first reported by IGN, Howard took a moment at the end of the Fallout Day Broadcast to reassure fans that there is plenty more to come, and they can’t wait to reveal more in the fullness of time.

The full quote from Howard goes a long way to assuaging concerns, saying, “Even though I am recording this — it’s not live — and I’m probably watching myself right now from my desk and I’m reading your chat and these… that thing you want and this other thing you want… Hey, we read it all. Just know we are working on even more. We are looking forward to the day when we can share that with everybody.”

That came after calls from beloved Hollywood legend Danny Trejo to remaster Fallout: New Vegas. Trejo appeared as Raul Alfonso Tejada, a Ghoul companion, in the Obsidian developed RPG, and it seems like he wants to jump on and play a refreshed version before long.

It will be interesting to see exactly what direction Bethesda chooses to take with the next Fallout game. Immense mods like Fallout: London have clearly demonstrated the potential of the franchise in new locations, but whether the developer will be bold enough to leave the United States remains unclear.

In the meantime, we’ll have to make do with the second season of the Fallout TV series on Prime Video, and we can keep our fingers crossed that they shadow drop that Fallout 3 remaster like they did with Oblivion.
