Battlefield 6 player gets refund after 470 hours played following controversial game update

A controversial game update made to Battlefield 6 has led to one upset player receiving a full refund for their purchase of the game from back in October 2025.

One of the bigger issues with live service games is that you risk losing access to your favourite features over time as new game modes, maps, and other content arrive brand new in the game.

This has led to Destiny 2 players losing out on crucial story content, or the Fortnite map constantly changing between chapters that has upset players over the years who want all the same content to persist.

As reported by Dexerto, one Battlefield 6 player claims to have received a full refund for their purchase of the game on Steam following an update by Electronic Arts, which removed a few of their favourite game modes.

According to user ExplorEverythingOnce, they were able to get a refund on Steam due to the fact that EA had removed several of their favourite game modes from Battlefield 6, which killed their interest in continuing playing.

The update landed on August 3 and removed the Rush mode from the game, which greatly upset ExplorEverythingOnce. Previously, EA had also removed King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch, which also upset the player.

Steam refunds only cover the first two hours played, or two weeks since purchase

Speaking to Steam Support, the user claims they received a full refund for their purchase, with $109.24 being issued back to them and their copy of Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition being revoked.

At the time of the refund, ExplorEverythingOnce says they had played Battlefield 6 for 470 hours, which exceeds the maximum two hours you have in order to claim a refund. If you fall outside of the two hours played or two weeks since purchase threshold, Steam only gives refunds in special circumstances.

Some of the comments are sceptical about whether the poster is being truthful or not, but I guess they must have made a convincing argument (as well as having a sympathetic support agent) as to why they felt they deserved a refund.

“Yeah, not something to be proud of. You played and had a great time for hundreds of hours, but still thought it would be OK to request a refund?” reads one comment underneath the post.

“Wait? They removed rush? Dont the game have an achievement that can only be awarded by playing Rush? Good thing I decided to complete the platinum like a month ago, now it is impossible to get,” another comment stated.

“I’ll take things that never happened for $1,000,” another comment reads.

In our Battlefield 6 review from October 2025, we called it “this year’s killer FPS”. The game has gone through various changes since then, including adding new modes and other content.
