The release of Fallout on Prime Video has done wonders for the franchise after it had been left in the doldrums somewhat, following the release of the admittedly very good Fallout 4 in 2017.
Taking place later than any of the games we've seen so far, the show features some really interesting original characters and, as officially canon, it has some wide-reaching implications for the upcoming stories that Bethesda might tell in their next release.
The only problem with that is that we weren't necessarily expecting another release for a while yet, as studio head honcho Todd Howard has repeatedly confirmed that we were more than likely getting The Elder Scrolls VI before we get Fallout 5.
Whilst this is totally fair enough given how long it's been since the release of an Elder Scrolls game, it doesn't act as much comfort to Fallout fans who've still had to wait eight years to get their hands on a mainline single-player release (so far).

That left us believing that it's going to be years before we get to see a new game, but recent comments from Howard suggest it might not be quite as long as we first expected.
Todd Howard Gets Our Fallout 5 Hopes Up Again

As revealed via an interview with Game Informer, Howard confirmed that they have a full team working on Fallout projects right now, though some of that does relate to the ongoing MMO Fallout 76.
"I will say, first, looking at 76, we've never stopped developing Fallout. We've had a full team on Fallout for a long time. So, Fallout, as a franchise, is the one we're still doing the most work in above anything," Howard said.
"Now, the majority of our internal studio is on Elder Scrolls VI. We are doing other things with Fallout that we haven't announced, and you know, there'll come a time for that. I get the sort of anxiety from fans, like, 'Well, what else? What else? Feed me!' But, look, we're working on stuff, and we do like to wait. And so, I think there'll be a moment to talk about that, and we want to make those special moments for our fans."
Whilst the studio is very much focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, it’s nice to know that some work has been going on in the background for Fallout. Hopefully, it means that we don’t have to wait years between the two big franchise releases, though we know better than to get our hopes up just yet.
