Cast your mind back to just before Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch. You'll probably remember there was talk of a multiplayer mode that would allow you to play with friends.

This never came to pass, of course. Cyberpunk 2077 was such a mess on release that the game's post-launch plans were considerably stripped back in favour of, you know, fixing the game.

It was a decision that ultimately served CD Projekt RED well. Cyberpunk 2077 is a top-tier RPG with one excellent expansion. Still, we can't help but wonder what it'd be like to take on Night City with friends.

Fortunately, five years later, Cyberpunk 2077 can finally enjoy multiplayer... after a fashion.

Announced earlier this week, Cyberpunk 2077: Turf Wars is a brand-new arcade game that lets you pick up a lightgun and blast away with friends. Check it out below!

"Cyberpunk 2077: Turf Wars combines the iconic world of CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 with innovative arcade gameplay for an unforgettable experience," explains manufacturer LAI Games.

"Featuring projection mapping technology, the game seamlessly integrates vivid video visuals with physical targets, creating an immersive battleground where players engage in explosive, high-energy combat.

"The patented Blast Shooting Effect amplifies the action with dazzling, color-coded bursts that light up the battlefield, while advanced haptic feedback and a pulse-pounding soundtrack enhance the sensory thrill. With three exciting game modes—Story Mode, Co-Op/Versus, and Sniper Mode—players can dive into gripping missions, team up with a friend, or put their precision to the test."

It's not quite the full-on sequel we're all waiting for (it'll be a long wait, mind you), but this should keep us happy.

There's no word yet on exactly when we'll be seeing this particular cabinet appear in arcades around the world, but definitely keep your eyes peeled next time you're out and about.
