PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch Owners Sleeping on Pile Of Free Games

From the most unexpected of places

Whether you’re on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch you might be just down the road from a surprising number of free games.

Most of the gaming freebies you find nowadays take the form of demos, free-to-play weekends or the bits you get through subscriptions like PlayStation Plus.

No one really talks about free physical games and yet they are about if you know where to look.

One inspired Reddit user shared that their local library of all places is a good place to check out, somewhere I’d have never considered if I was thinking about picking up something new to play.

In the post they said: “I’m the type of person who plays a game once, loves it, and then it just sits on a shelf forever. I got the disc PS5 originally thinking I’d borrow games from friends, buy used, maybe resell… but honestly? Selling games online is a nightmare, especially with the flakey buyers and lowball offers on Marketplace.”

They then explained that like books some libraries will stock video games which can be borrowed and returned as and when you play them.

I’m sure some places would love for you to take them off their hands entirely if you ask nicely.

This will of course depend on your local library so it’s a bit of a gamble but with so many PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch games out there, there’s bound to be a couple of things you can borrow.

Alternatively you could always donate your own games if you’re feeling kind. Sure you could sell them online but sometimes it’s nice to just do a good thing.

Now I haven’t checked out my own library since seeing the post but I do recall a while ago when I was taking a book out there was the odd PlayStation 4 game on a shelf rack near the door.

That’s the kind of game to expect, last-gen titles, but most of them will work with your modern consoles through backwards compatibility or if you’ve still got your old console lying around, even better.

Honestly it was an amazing shout.

Like I said you probably shouldn’t expect to find any brand-new releases but I’m sure there’ll be something of note.

Then when your done you can return it so the next person can give it a whirl. Support your local library!
