No, That Beloved Assassin’s Creed Remake Wasn't Confirmed With A GTA Meme

Here we go again

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been rumoured to be getting a remake for years, and Ubisoft has seemingly confirmed its existence in the most bizarre way possible.

It all started with a statue of the game’s protagonist Edward Kenway which appeared online. Many believed it had leaked and was part of the remake’s collector’s edition though I don’t think anyone expected Ubisoft to respond to the claims.

Replying to a tweet sharing the new figurine Ubisoft posted a screenshot of CJ from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas saying his infamous line “Ah s***, here we go again.”

Now for many, this was taken as a lighthearted joke about how every new game or project in the works gets leaked eventually, a very frustrating experience for studios trying to build some excitement for upcoming releases.

However others took the joke far more literally, believing this was Ubisoft’s way of saying “that’s right, we’re doing Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag again.”

It would make sense, considering this is the first Assassin’s Creed game to get an actual remake. Other titles in the series have had new-gen upgrades that improve the resolution and framerate for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced is believed to be an honest to God redo built from the ground-up.

Now considering Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is my favourite game in the series that gets me excited, as does this supposed tease by Ubisoft.

It does beg the question though, when will the studio finally announce it?

Turbulent Times

Ubisoft is currently going through it. To kick-off 2026 the company announced a shake-up to its organisation and in the process a number of in-development games were cancelled, including the Prince of Persia remake.

Many wondered if Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced was another casualty of the cancellations but from the sound of things it’s survived. It makes sense as it feels like an easy-win for Ubisoft due to its popularity.

As for when it might finally be unveiled I’m guessing there’ll either be a trailer dropped out of nowhere, or Ubisoft is holding it back for this year’s Summer Game Fest celebrations.

That’s just me speculating but rumour has it that the game is supposed to launch sometime this year, so the announcement has got to be soon if that’s to be believed.
