Cyberpunk 2077 players will soon be able to play the game in multiplayer, once this glorious mod gets a little more time to cook.

We all know CD Projekt Red faced many hardships during Cyberpunk 2077’s development, and it completely changed the studio’s approach to The Witcher IV.

With a bit more time it could have been released in a far more stable state, and we probably would have gotten more DLC too as the months following launch were used to fix the game’s many issues before expansions were to be delivered.

One such update was a multiplayer mode that would have let you explore Night City with your friends, but unfortunately it was scrapped before it could see the light of day.

It wouldn’t have been the next GTA: Online but it would have certainly been something, so it’s a shame we never got to see it.

Modders Doing the Lord’s Work

Modders have swept into to save the day though as a multiplayer mod is currently in the works and recently passed its recent beta test with flying colours.

CyberMP aims to finally get players online and you can see the results of their work on YouTube.

The latest multiplayer test was assessing the following criteria; Synchronization of vehicles and players, testing game modes, evaluating resilience and stability of the platform, testing a new JavaScript module and verifying server status.

The team was very impressed with the result though with progress steadily moving along.

As for what you can expect from the mod when it eventually drops, it’ll focus primarily on brand-new modes being brought to the game. This includes PvP and racing through Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077-
CD Projekt Red

Players will not be able to play through Cyberpunk 2077’s story with a friend, as cool as that would be.

The story missions are of course made with only one player in mind so to add multiple would be a lot of work and would probably cause a variety of issues before it could ever be fun.

CD Projekt Red is already taking its first steps into the next Cyberpunk game. The Witcher IV is the next game set to be released but a portion of the team is said to doing some initial prep on what’s being referred to as Cyberpunk 2, before an actual name is decided on.

While nothing is confirmed we’re hoping the next Cyberpunk game features an official multiplayer mode.
