Cyberpunk 2077 players can now explore Night City together thanks to a new multiplayer mod inspired by GTA Online.
As fantastic as CD Projekt RED's sci-fi RPG is, there's arguably one major feature missing: online co-op. Exploring Night City is already an incredibly immersive experience, but imagine how much more fun it could be to share that experience with a friend.
Cyberpunk 2077's lack of co-op is something that has many players looking at Rockstar's GTA Online with envy. Few open-world games let you explore a huge, vibrant world with friends quite like the GTA V spin-off. Thankfully, talented modders are making that possible with a new Cyberpunk 2077 role-playing server.
What is the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod?
As brought to our attention by X user Synth Potato, the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod is called ‘OPEN//77’ and it was first revealed to the public in August 2026 while still in its early alpha stage of development.
OPEN//77 is an ambitious Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod inspired by GTA Online's popular role-playing servers. The unofficial mod lets players explore Night City together, with custom rules, activities and gameplay modifiers. You'll need a PC copy of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion to play.
Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mod features
Here are just a handful of some of the best features of the Cyberpunk 2077 ‘OPEN//77’ community multiplayer mod:
- GTA Online-style role-playing: Join community servers with their own jobs, economies, factions and rules.
- Custom multiplayer modes: Experience different ways to play, from free roam and survival to unique community-created activities.
- PvP combat: Battle other players in dedicated combat modes.
- Racing: Compete in races, join racing leagues and take part in car meets around Night City.
- Deathmatches and bot matches: Jump into competitive shootouts against other players or AI opponents.
- Battle royale: Fight to survive in a mode featuring loot, revives, shields and a dedicated map.
- Third-person gameplay: Experience Night City from a different perspective with third-person features.
- A more alive Night City: Improvements to NPC synchronisation and traffic help make the city feel more active during multiplayer sessions.
At the time of writing, the most recent update for ‘OPEN//77’ was implemented on October 12, 2026. This update improved the User Interface, added more public resources to help creators be even more creative, and added new activities and more.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that this mod is still in active development, so you may encounter some bugs and new content may be added or changed at some point.
As is the case with all Cyberpunk 2077 mods, this is a PC exclusive and is not available on consoles. For the rest of us, we’ll have to continue to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 as intended on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

Cyberpunk 2077's cancelled multiplayer game explained
Before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020, CDPR was going to release an official multiplayer game. However, due to how disastrous that launch was, the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer game was cancelled.
It was going to be a standalone multiplayer game set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077 in Night City, rather than just being an expansion to the existing game. Sadly, details on exactly what else that game would have offered have been kept under wraps by CDPR.
In December 2022, senior quest designer Philipp Weber explained that CD Projekt RED had simply tried to do too much at once, making the multiplayer game too ambitious alongside its other projects.
Instead, the team focused on fixing and improving Cyberpunk 2077, which shaped the game we know today. I think we can agree that was for the best, but hopefully, multiplayer could return for the sequel. Fingers crossed.
