Cyberpunk 2 Development in Full Swing, 29 New Hires Wanted

Here we go!

It appears that development on Cyberpunk 2 is now in full swing, with CD Projekt Red now hiring for 29 new roles.

The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 was officially announced earlier this year with the working title “Cyberpunk 2”. No details have been added since then, but it’s assumed the game is planned to be released after The Witcher 4.

The next Witcher game, on the other hand, appears to be a lot closer than we thought. CD Projekt Red has already released a game demo and a couple of trailers.

It seems that with The Witcher 4 being rather close to the end of the development, it’s now time for CDPR to focus its efforts on the Cyberpunk sequel.

Cyberpunk 2 development is full steam ahead

As seen on the careers section of the developer’s official website, CD Projekt Red is now hiring for 29 new roles, ranging from design roles like level designers and concept artists, to marketing and studio operations roles.

From the looks of it, a lot of these roles will be on a single project such as Cyberpunk 2 or The Witcher 4, with only a few juggling multiple projects at a time.

CD Projekt Red is being very secretive with these job descriptions so as not to give too much away, but given that a lot of these roles seem to be design and concept professions anyway, I’d imagine it’s still a bit too early to speculate on specific features that will come to the sequel.

Still, it’s good to know that the company is now full steam ahead with regards to Cyberpunk 2’s development.

Knowing how long games take to make nowadays, I can’t imagine we’ll see anything regarding the game until the next generation.

On the other hand, it’s possible that we’ll see The Witcher 4 before the generation is out. The Witcher 4 originally got an announcement back in 2022, but we didn’t see anything concrete until a trailer debuted at The Game Awards last year.

However, CD Projekt Red has said that prototypes of the game are running on PS5 hardware, meaning that it could intend to release it on current-gen platforms.

With the PS6 rumoured to be launched in 2027 or 2028, it might mean that CDPR intends to release the game either before the generation is over, or as a cross-gen release sometime after the next-gen consoles have been released.
