We might be getting The Witcher 4 a lot sooner than we originally thought, according to a new reveal by CD Projekt RED.
CD Projekt RED officially revealed The Witcher 4 back in December at The Game Awards, where we also got a trailer and some early info about the game.
At today’s Unreal Fest Orlando, the Polish developer released a short early look at the upcoming game, which included a more thorough look at the characters, environments, and monsters.

Frankly, it looks beautiful. The Witcher 3 was already a really stunning game in the graphics department, but it seems CD Projekt RED is going all-out for its next Witcher outing.
What’s even more interesting about this is the fact that the developer was running the demo on a base PS5.
Sadly, we don’t have a release date yet, but considering how long it takes these triple-A games to be developed these days, this says that CD Projekt RED must be targeting the current generation of consoles rather than wait for the PS6 or whatever the next Xbox is called.
Therefore, we could be seeing The Witcher 4 released on current-gen platforms only within a few years, rather than an excruciatingly long wait for the next gen.

The Witcher 4 is also apparently targeting 60fps on the standard PS5, and has ray-tracing too.
If CD Projekt RED can pull it off, it might be a generation-defining RPG in the same way its predecessor was.
Hopefully CD Projekt RED has learned its lessons from the disastrous launch that was Cyberpunk 2077.
If it thinks the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will be adequate enough to fit the scope of The Witcher 4, then it’s a good idea to release on those systems rather than wait for the next gen.
