It’s widely expected that Geralt will soon return in an official new expansion from CD Projekt RED ahead of the launch of The Witcher 4.
Admittedly, such an expansion is yet to come to light but the rumour has surfaced on enough occasions that the saying ‘there’s no smoke without fire’ begins to ring true.
One thing that is for certain though is that Geralt will be returning in a fan-made DLC expansion, and that will be titled The Last Sacrifice.
Unlike CDPR’s supposed DLC which will bridge the gap between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4, the fan-made The Last Sacrifice is set to serve as a prequel.
Advert
As spotted by ScreenRant, The Last Sacrifice is being made by a small group of dedicated modders and was first announced in 2025.
Unfortunately, that does mean that this project is likely some way off from release; there’s no anticipated release window just yet.

The team does post regular updates on its progress though, so there is some hope that The Last Sacrifice will eventually see the light of day.
As for what we can expect in terms of content, The Last Sacrifice promises to feature a brand new region to explore comparable in size to White Orchard.
It’ll also include several new quests, a variety of new monsters posing unique threats, an original score, and unique Gwent cards.
More Gwent is most definitely enough to lure many back in.

The Witcher 4 Is Shaping Up Nicely
While CDPR’s rumoured The Witcher 3 expansion remains just that, a rumour, we have seen a fair bit of The Witcher 4.
Last year, CD Projekt RED dropped a tech demo for the highly anticipated title that left us all incredibly impressed.
The tech demo was set within Kovir and saw Ciri travel through a bustling market hub.

As a tech demo, this wasn’t gameplay lifted from the final release, but it should give some indication of the level of immersion and technical fidelity we can expect in the final release.
The Witcher 4 lacks a release date but is expected to land in the next couple of years.
It is CDPR’s next mainline project but, naturally, we’re all hoping a real DLC is confirmed to tide us over until then.
