A bug in The Witcher 3 has basically given us The Witcher 4, in a weird kind of way.
As you must know, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has you play as Geralt of Rivia for 95% of the game, but there are certain sections which have you play as Ciri on the run from the Wild Hunt.
These sequences are pretty short, running only around 20 minutes in length, and are closed off levels rather than letting you explore the world as Ciri.
One player, however, has managed to break the game by finding a way to exit one of Ciri’s levels and explore the world as her. You can even do quests and advance the story.
Play As Ciri Everywhere Thanks To Witcher 3 Bug
As posted on the Witcher 3 Reddit page, user PotentialEmu2367 was able to break the level ‘Ciri’s Story: Visiting Junior’ by simply leaving the area and going to do other things.

While there are invisible walls and instant-death zones that punish you for ignoring Ciri’s task at hand, the player was able to find a spot which doesn’t do this.
So, if you follow the steps perfectly, you can get out of bounds and explore the world as Ciri.

Using this bug, you can even do quests, but NPCs will see you as Geralt, and make comments as if you were him. If you enter a cutscene as him, the game either turns you back into Geralt for the duration of the cutscene, or Ciri with Geralt’s voice.
It’s quite a funny sight to behold. Because CD Projekt Red designed Ciri’s character model to be quite small and slim, it’s very funny to see her using Geralt’s animations in cutscenes.

“My man unlocked Witcher 4 Early Access,” reads one comment, poking fun at the fact that this is basically what The Witcher 4 will be when it eventually launches.
“That cutscene with Dijkstra is literally 'when your custom character appears in a cutscene’,” reads another comment.
As another user points out, you can even start the Hearts of Stone DLC as Ciri, allowing you to play the expansion in an alternate way.
However, there is a roadblock a bit later on when you’re required to use magic to complete a quest, which Ciri can’t do. So you can't beat the DLC this way.
