Cyberpunk 2077 is getting what looks to be a seamless co-op mode, letting friends explore Night City together six years after fans first hoped to experience the story campaign in multiplayer.
Depending on your perspective, some gamers would love to see multiplayer co-op in open-world games. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4 could be even better with a friend, while Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might be better off without it.
One other game that could benefit from having co-op multiplayer is the aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt RED, and as stated at the top of this article, a talented modder is making it happen.
Cyberpunk 2077's NightCoop mod brings co-op multiplayer to Night City
While NightCoop is currently a work in progress, the developers intend to begin public testing on the unofficial mode on October 23, 2026. In its current closed testing phase, the mod covers the prologue and Act 1 of the Cyberpunk 2077 campaign.

When development is complete, NightCoop aims to let up to eight players explore Night City together online. Each player will control their own version of V, with multiple-choice dialogue decisions determined by a vote among players. What's more, the cinematic cutscenes will remain intact.
It's worth noting that NightCoop isn't the only Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer project in development. While NightCoop aims to bring co-op to the story campaign, OPEN//77 focuses on multiplayer servers and custom activities, offering a different way to experience Night City with other players.
