Assassin’s Creed Hexe is one of the only Assassin’s Creed games I’ve genuinely been excited for in several years.
The last one was Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, because I’ve always loved Greek mythology and the country in general. While later games were just as good, especially Assassin’s Creed Mirage, there hasn't been an officially announced title that’s had me counting down the days till its launch, apart from Hexe.
Unfortunately I’ll seemingly be waiting a bit longer than planned. Assassin’s Creed Hexe is the next mainline title to come from Ubisoft but following its announcement four years ago we’ve hardly heard a word on it. What new information we have received is from the game’s new script writer Christopher Grilli, who recently joined the project and has big ambitions for where its story could go.
Grilli shared the announcement through LinkedIn and has worked for Ubisoft in the past for Assassin’s Creed: Origins, so that’s definitely a promising start.

However if the script writer is only just joining the project, that’s quite worrying especially considering most Assassin’s Creed games only release a few years apart, depending on their size and scale.
The saving grace is Assassin’s Creed Hexe likely won’t be a massive open-world title. Set during the Salem witch trials it’s expected the game will feature a slightly smaller map, probably something akin to Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s. RPG elements will still be at play though.

While I’m not overly keen on the RPG format I have tolerated it so far.

That being said I think Assassin’s Creed Hexe will lend itself surprisingly well to the style Ubisoft has been perfecting over the years. With a more supernatural theme to it I think it’d be really cool to craft potions, enchanted weapons and spells in the place of more traditional assassin gear.
It’s all very exciting but before we get too ahead of ourselves we really need to know when it plans on launching.
An announcement is expected sometime this year and with any luck the game will be ready for a late 2027 or 2028 release, though I’d rather Ubisoft take its time than rush it out of the door.
In the meantime I’m hoping those constant rumours of an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake turn out to be true, as it’d be just the thing to bridge the gap between Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the next mainline game.
