Assassin's Creed Origins 8K Free Overhaul Proves We Need a Sequel

Technically we got many sequels...

Assassin’s Creed Origins is one of the most breathtaking games Ubisoft has ever made, and it’s hardly aged a day since 2017.

As one of the most daring Assassin’s Creed games of its time Assassin’s Creed Origins took fans back to where it all began, Egypt.

It follows Bayek of Siwa played by the ever-so talented Abubakar Salim, and showed players the humble beginnings of the Assassin Brotherhood.

The game was also the first in the series to adopt more RPG-like mechanics, before it was fully-adopted in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey shortly after.

Looking back it was a truly remarkable game and a glorious technical showcase for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with the game looking even better with upgraded visuals on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

For the best graphics possible though PC is where it’s at, with a video by Digital Dreams showing us exactly what the game can do when it’s played on max settings.

The gameplay footage was captured running on a RTX 5090, with Ultra settings switched on in addition to raytracing.

If the desert didn’t look incredible before it certainly does now, with sunlight dancing off the sands and passing buildings. Things get verdant as Bayek passes through nearby fields of crops, and the footage gets even better when he sets sail downstream, gliding across some very refreshing looking water.

We could go on but the gist of it is it looks bloody good, as it should given how expensive GPUs are before the impending price hike.

The only thing I’m a little suspicious of when looking at this footage, and it’s a common occurrence during showcases like this, is that there’s really not a whole not going on. If players were to spend 90% of their time looking at pretty views, games like Assassin’s Creed would be far less appealing, and I’d imagine the reason why the footage doesn’t show much parkour or combat is because the performance starts to get a little choppy as things become more active.

That said PC is still the prime way to play Assassin’s Creed Origins, with the same being said for pretty much any game provided you’ve got the right kind of rig.

Years later Assassin’s Creed Origins still stands as a shining example of a great Assassin’s Creed game, and it’s a shame so many of the following games failed to see a similar level of success.
