Jar Jar Binks is back, and I’m fully here for it.
Listen, I know that Jar Jar is one of Star Wars’ most polarising characters, but I can’t help but love him.
Perhaps it’s because of the nostalgia I have for the prequel trilogy; he’s just a silly guy who’s doing his best.
Certainly, I agree with the assertion that he can be annoying from time to time, but isn’t that the very point?

I like my Star Wars with a little humour where appropriate so I’m very glad to see that Jar Jar Binks has made his grand return in the recently released LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy - Pieces of the Past.
Pieces of the Past is essentially the second season of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy which you can view on Disney Plus.
It won’t take you very long to work through the show. Each season consists of eight episodes lasting for less than 30 minutes each.
It’s exactly what you’d expect from a LEGO Star Wars show; Rebuild The Galaxy is a fun romp through space with unexpected team-ups, plenty of hijinks, and surprising takes on familiar characters.

I’d argue there’s no Star Wars project where a character like Jar Jar Binks feels more at home, although the version of the character we see here is very different.
It’s actually Darth Jar Jar that features in the story, seemingly taking inspiration from the fan theory that Jar Jar has always been a Sith Lord.
The character appeared in the first season of Rebuild The Galaxy but returns in Pieces of the Past with a new design.
Here, he dons what I can only describe as mechanical spider legs; his bottom half sort of looks like the droidekas from the prequel films, if you recall those.

I don’t want to delve too far into why this is the case because I heartily recommend you just give the series a watch.
As much as I adore Jar Jar, I will admit that this new look is most definitely an unsettling one.
It does fill me with joy though that actor Ahmed Best has rekindled his connection with the Star Wars franchise.
He wrongfully received so much hate during the prequel era for his portrayal of Jar Jar.

Now, the actor is celebrated for his arguably iconic role, having also since appeared as the live-action character Beq in The Mandalorian.
