Despite his best efforts actually leading to some pretty catastrophic losses for the bad guys, particularly at the Battle of Naboo where his clumsy nature kills a lot of droids, Jar Jar Binks has never really been able to sort out his reputation amongst Star Wars fans.
Ask the average watcher on the street and almost all of them will say that they find him annoying, at the very least, with others refusing to acknowledge his existence entirely, lest they be consumed by rage like Anakin.
Well, in news that will likely divide the fan base further, the character is about to make his return in Jar Jar, a new one shot comic from the man who provided the original motion capture and voice acting for the character, Ahmed Best.
Announced at New York Comic-Con, the publisher shared the following summary, "This all-new one-shot teams up two iconic characters, Jar Jar Binks from the Prequel Trilogy and Kelleran Beq who has been seen in The Mandalorian as the Jedi who saved young Grogu from the Jedi massacre Order 66 as well as in Marvel’s Jedi Knights #9. This comic is co-written by actor Ahmed Best who starred as both Jar Jar Binks and Kelleran Beq, and writer Marc Guggenheim, showrunner of the TV series Arrow as well as writer of Marvel’s Jedi Knights series.”

One thing that a lot of fans will absolutely be looking forward to is getting more information about Kelleran Beq, whose crucial role during the climactic events of The Revenge of the Sith only became clear in the much more recent Mandalorian series.
Outside of that brief snippet, we have very little idea about who exactly he is or how powerful he's supposed to be, though it is quite clear that he has considerable control over the Force.
Since his first appearance in The Phantom Menace, Binks has actually appeared quite a lot in Star Wars properties in both a canon and non-canon capacity.
His role also changed several times across the many drafts of the films, with George Lucas eventually deciding to reduce his significance in the third film after overwhelmingly negative feedback from the audience.

In fact, he was actually supposed to be the figure who grants Palpatine the emergency powers he needs to take over the Senate, though he was unaware of his true identity.
The new comic is set to release on 8 February 2026, so you will have a little while to wait before you can find out what he's up to.
