Bloodborne players can pick up a brand new gameplay twist thanks to this new mod, which changes how fog gates work.
Aptly titled 'Fog Gate Randomizer', the mod works similarly to fog gate randomiser mods which populate other FromSoftware games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
The mod changes the behaviour of fog gates so that entering one will drop you at the exit of a completely different gate.
For example, enter a fog gate in Central Yharnam, and you could be teleported to Byrgenwerth, or Hemwick Charnel Lane, or even Nightmare of Mensis. Where you end up is completely random, with the seed being generated using a tool before you start playing.

Fog gates are now permanent, so travelling through one doesn’t result in it disappearing. The gate will remain there for the entirety of your save and will allow you to travel back and forth between each location at will. This also applies to multiplayer fog gates, allowing for a few more gates to be used.
Other features of the mod include a way to escape boss fights by travelling through the fog gates in their arena.
You can also scale bosses to accommodate the new progression path caused by the randomised route, with boss damage and HP scaling according to your level. This can also be adjusted between three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, and Hard.
The mod is currently described as a work-in-progress, with “softlocks, bugs and glitches” occurring. Makes sense, considering randomised fog gate routes could potentially land you in an area that doesn’t allow you to continue or reach the endgame boss.

Bloodborne's Fog Gate Randomiser is a great way to introduce a new challenge to your next playthrough
As a practical tool for your next playthrough, the mod may still have a few kinks to iron out, but it’s still an interesting experiment for veteran players to try out if they’d like to spice up their next Bloodborne character.
In spite of the issues, modder Bronas921836 added three different win conditions you can reach to trigger the ending of the playthrough. This can be either finding and defeating Mergo’s Wet Nurse, finding and defeating all bosses in the game, or finding and defeating all non-optional bosses in the game.
There’s also a checkbox you can use to disable DLC fog gates from being affected, in case you just want to rush through the main game.
If you want to check out this mod, the catch is you’ll need to have an emulated copy of Bloodborne on PC (using ShadPS4), or a jailbroken PS4 copy. Either way, it won’t work with a retail copy of the game on a standard PlayStation, as mods are prohibited on that platform.
'BB Fog Gate Randomizer' is available now from the Nexus Mods page for Bloodborne.
