Star Wars fans unify in agreement on major character recasts, and we love to see it.
Taking into consideration that Star Wars has been going strong for nearly 50 years, you’d expect its ever-passionate community to have varied opinions, which can result in heated clashes, but not today.
Speaking of the upcoming anniversary, the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy has teased a big announcement for the Star Wars Celebration 2027 event in Los Angeles, USA. We can’t wait to learn what that could be.

What’s more, given the fact that Star Wars is nearly half a century old, it makes sense that characters will eventually be recast, especially when a modern prequel story is being told.
Recasting a role for a popular character can be a very tricky process. A couple of examples that come to mind are Robert Burke replacing Peter Weller in RoboCop 3 or Jonathan Groff replacing Hugo Weaving in The Matrix Resurrections, with neither hitting the mark.
However, thankfully, at least Star Wars recasts usually knock it out of the park.
“Star Wars always kills it with recasts in my opinion,” said Redditor Sprice_is_nic3, kicking off the discussion on the thread.

The post was shared with images of Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Joel Edgerton (Owen Lars) and Sam Witwer (Darth Maul).

“Ewan is so good, I forgot he was a recast,” replied anakinskywalkerchzn1.
“Genevieve O'Reilly is just such an eerily perfect casting for Mon Mothma,” said shogi_x. “The first time I saw her in Rogue One, I swore they just did a face replacement. She killed it.”
“I don't even consider Sam Witwer a recast. He IS Maul,” declared RMST1912. Sam Witwer also played Darth Vader’s apprentice, aka Starkiller, in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video games.
I also thought that Vivien Lyra Blair played a fantastic young Princess Leia Organa in the Disney Plus series, Obi-Wan Kenobi.
