Star Wars 50th anniversary plans have fans divided

Ain't no party like a Death Star party!

Star Wars is edging closer to its 50th anniversary celebrations in what should be a joyous time for fans; however, there is a degree of division.

In May 1977, Star Wars (later renamed as Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope) made its debut in the world of cinema and from that moment fourth, it won a loyal legion of fans that is seemingly still growing to this very day.

To this day, talk of Star Wars often dominates social media conversations, for better or worse, but those conversations are expected to crank up a notch for its 50th anniversary in 2027.

This year, the Star Wars Celebration exhibition took place in Tokyo, Japan, but its next event will take place in the Los Angeles Convention Center, roughly eight miles away from Hollywood, the central hub of the movie industry.

Will we get new Star Wars movies announced as well as series on Disney Plus? There’s every chance, but we can only speculate at this time, but Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has teased big surprises for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars.

As brought to our attention by the Twitter account Star Wars Holocron, when on stage at the BFI Southbank, Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Lucasfilm is “already talking about [the 50th anniversary] celebration” of Star Wars, and that it’s going to be “unbelievable”.

In response to her tease, not everyone was overwhelmed with joy; it has to be said, but plenty are still excited at what could be revealed in a couple of years.

“If it's big, George Lucas has to be involved with it,” assumed ChristianStole5.

“They need to release the original cut of Star Wars (with George Lucas’ blessing, of course),” demanded NationOfEagles.

“I think perhaps she could retire before then. I doubt the fans would complain. Maybe put Dave Filoni or Sam Witwer in charge,” said TobiQadri.

“They could start by releasing the complete remastered scores for all nine saga films,” suggested StJimmySkywalk1.

Only time will tell what will be revealed at the Star Wars Celebration in 2027, but as always, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more.
