Disney is rolling out the celebrations for Star Wars as the franchise nears its 50th anniversary, with a new image on social media.
Star Wars began way back in 1977 with the first film, that was actually the fourth film, launching a new era in cinema and sparking a passion for sci-fi stories.
As we near the big 5-0 for the series, Disney is eager to capitalise on the celebration by re-releasing the original film, Star Wars: A New Hope, in cinemas during 2027.
Over on Twitter, we’ve got a little tease for the 50th anniversary of George Lucas’ magnum opus.

The logo, which shows Luke and Leia posed as they were seen on the original film poster by Tom Jung, shows that Disney may have more plans beyond the re-release.
With Leia draped by the side of Luke, as he holds up his lightsaber, all embellished in gold with a large ‘50,’ it shows the company is serious about championing the beloved films.
Many fans love the style and the nod to the original artwork, with plenty of ‘oohhhhs’ and ‘ahhhs’ across social media.
As it stands, we have no idea what the plans are beyond the 2027 release, but there are many months ahead of us where the house of mouse can show off their plans.

We’re expecting the surviving members of the cast will make special appearances, and we may even get fresh interviews and documentaries with Lucas and the creatives on the first film.
This isn’t just a celebration of A New Hope, but the seed that sprouted fandoms and the passions of millions of fans across the world.
Expect to see much more of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader over the next couple of years as we near 2027, because if Disney are teasing things this early, they’re likely to go all out.
