Star Wars: A New Hope will be returning to cinemas in 2027 to celebrate 50 years of the iconic film that revolutionised sci-fi and the film industry.
George Lucas’ blockbuster that kickstarted a passion in millions of fans came out in cinemas in 1977, so to celebrate, Disney will re-release the film to the joy of fans everywhere.
Announced over on Twitter, the film will come to cinemas across the world, giving many fans a chance to see the action on the big screen for the first time.
For many, they will have only watched the first film in the original trilogy on TV, so to see the Death Star looming large will be a real treat.

It’s hard to believe that this wonderful franchise started almost 50 years ago, and since then Star Wars has become a household name, creating more films, many books and comics, as well as original TV shows like The Acolyte and Andor.
It’s not yet clear which version of the film will be shown, but most fans on social media would much prefer to see the original cut.
As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I have to agree. While the new cuts Lucas made waves back in the late 1990s with the ‘Special Editions,’ most viewers didn’t appreciate the changes made.
Lucas added in many scenes that were unnecessary, or embellished by CGI, muddying the whole experience, or adjusting the canon of the story.

Now, if it were really a proper re-release, we’d get the amazing Laserdisc editions, or 4K imprints of it, as they provided the clearest and cleanest visuals of the film.
More details will emerge over the coming months, including where you can buy your tickets, and hopefully Disney will use the occasion to announced more celebrations, or even new shows and films.
