For many years now, Star Wars fans have said that if Luke Skywalker ever gets recast, there’s only one actor who should step into the role.
With the original actor, Mark Hamill, unlikely to ever play Luke Skywalker again, if Disney wants to pursue certain stories, particularly between the original trilogy and the sequels, then a recast needs to happen.
When the idea of a new anthology series appeared on Reddit, suggested by a fan, discussion quickly turned to Sebastian Stan playing the role of the Jedi.
The fan puts forward the idea of a series that takes place after Return of the Jedi and follows Luke on adventures through the galaxy, until he ends up a hermit, as seen in The Last Jedi.

This idea went over well with fans, but questions were asked about casting, as Mark Hamill would be too old to play Luke at that point in the timeline.
“I'd prefer a recast over a CGI Luke,” said International_Way850.
In reply to this, L0lligag says, “People seemed pretty cool with the Sebastian Stan fan cast. Still my personal favourite fan cast in a long time and I think it could really work.”
Sebastian Stan has been the choice of fans for ages, with the two actors having very similar facial features.

When one fan brings up the age of Sebastian Stan as an issue playing post-Return of the Jedi Luke, GoAgainKid replies, “Ten years older than Hamill at the end of Jedi. That's not an insurmountable issue.”
There is, of course, another way to capture that time and tell those stories, as one Redditor notes, “My suggestion has always been to do it animated.”
Would it pull in the same audience? Most of the subreddit seems pretty adamant Disney should just recast Luke, with Talmerian exclaiming, “RECAST LUKE. Recasting needs to become the norm!”
