Star Wars 50th Anniversary Celebration To See Return Of Luke, Han, And Leia

The Force Re-Awakens

Star Wars is set for some big celebrations in 2027, as it’ll be the 50th anniversary of the franchise.

Debuting back in 1977, Star Wars has been one of the biggest pop culture touchstones of all time. No matter where you go across the world, it’d be hard to find someone who isn’t familiar with Yoda, or lightsabers, or Darth Vader’s iconic breathing sounds.

Even today, Star Wars still continues that legacy with new films, television shows, books, and video games in the works.

The 50th anniversary of Star Wars occurs in 2027, and it sounds like Disney is going all-out for the celebrations by bringing back the iconic film to cinemas.

As reported by Variety, Disney plans to bring back Star Wars: A New Hope to cinemas on 30th April, 2027 for audiences around the globe to watch.

However, this release may land itself in a spot of controversy due to the number of versions the film has.

The original film, which was just titled “Star Wars” when it first released, has been touched up and edited over the series with a series of director's cuts.

These new cuts add extra scenes, CGI, altered dialogue and music, and also completely change some scenes. It’s where we get the infamous “Han Shot First” debate.

It’s proved to be controversial among Star Wars fans, who feel that the theatrical, unaltered cuts of the original trilogy are far more superior than the later releases.

It's currently unknown if Disney will release one of these director’s cuts or will settle on the original release of the film. Considering it’s a special 50th anniversary showing, there’s a high chance it could indeed be the original version.

But still, beware that you might have to see a weird CGI Jabba the Hutt and Greedo saying "Maclunkey".

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Mark your calendars for April 2027, and we’ll all get to enjoy Star Wars in the cinema again.
