The Blood of Dawnwalker developer Rebel Wolves has revealed it will be fixing a major complaint players have just two weeks before launch.
Set to be released in September, early footage of The Blood of Dawnwalker published last week revealed that the game would be running at sub-60fps framerates on console, with one graphical mode offering 30fps, and another at 40fps.
This led to a flurry of complaints regarding the technical performance of the Witcher rival, with many critics claiming that the game should offer a 60fps mode for those who desire a smoother experience.
Following the backlash, Rebel Wolves has now announced that a 60fps mode will be included in the game at launch as an additional graphics feature. However, there is a catch.
Advert
While PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X users will be able to enjoy the 60fps mode for The Blood of Dawnwalker, no such performance mode will exist on Xbox Series S.
This is due to the weaker hardware of the Xbox Series S, which has led to developers often dialing back some of the graphical features on that platform in order to hit a stable performance.
Still, it’s great to see that a 60fps mode will indeed be available for all The Blood of Dawnwalker players when the game launches on September 3, 2026.
Quality and Performance modes in The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker will feature several graphics modes at launch, offering a range of different resolution and framerate options for players to use.
Here is what we know so far about the graphical modes launching with the game in September:
- PlayStation 5 Pro
- Performance (targeting 60fps)
- Balanced (targeting 40fps)
- Quality (targeting 30fps)
- PlayStation 5
- Performance (targeting 60fps)
- Balanced (targeting 40fps)
- Quality (targeting 30fps)
- Xbox Series X
- Performance (targeting 60fps)
- Balanced (targeting 40fps)
- Quality (targeting 30fps)
- Xbox Series S
- Standard (targeting 30fps)
While we don’t have information regarding the resolutions included with each mode, it’s likely that Quality will feature an upscaled 4K resolution while Performance will hit around 1080p.
Balanced mode, on the other hand, will likely hit somewhere in the middle with a lot of DLSS and upscaling going on behind the scenes to get the game looking as crisp as it can be.

The Blood of Dawnwalker early impressions are positive
Rebel Wolves was founded by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who was a director on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and head of production for Cyberpunk 2077. The Blood of Dawnwalker is his first game since leaving CD Projekt Red in 2021.
When we previewed the game last month, GAMINGbible's Kate Harrold said that "As far as first impressions go, though, The Blood of Dawnwalker couldn’t have put on any more of a dazzling show. It’s a confident, well-crafted beast of a project that could easily become a new modern classic come its launch day on September 3, which I’ll now be counting down for."
