If you take a look at Star Wars’ list of mainline characters, there’s only one non-droid who actually appeared in and survived all three trilogies.
Can you guess who it is?
If you said Chewbecca, you’re bang on the money, my friend.
We’re not counting droids here as whilst, yes, C-3PO and R2-D2 did survive all three trilogies and appeared within them, droids don’t exactly have an expected lifespan.

If you keep repairing them, they go on surviving and so it kind of feels like cheating to include them in this contest.
Lando Calrissian almost joins Chewbecca as a winner but the character does not appear in all films in the three trilogies even if he does technically survive them.
This discovery was pointed out by Reddit user kingsears29 who said, “Chewbacca lived through all three trilogies. Can you name any other character to live that long?”
“Droids don’t count and neither does Palpatine. He died in Return of the Jedi,” they continued.

I quite agree that Palpatine doesn’t count. Sure, he came back via a clone but he did indeed die and therefore doesn’t meet the criteria.
Judging by the responses, most characters fall into the same category as Lando by which I mean they survived all three trilogies, but didn’t crucially appear onscreen throughout all three.
“Maz certainly lived that long though she doesn’t appear in the first two trilogies,” replied sbcpunk fitting that criteria.
Grogu was also raised as a character who might’ve survived all events.

“Does Ahsoka count? She isn’t in any movies but we know she’s alive during their time periods,” said Insert_Goat_Pun_Here.
Again though, these characters don’t feature in every trilogy.
Off the top of my head, it’s only Chewbecca, Leia, and Luke that fit that bill if we’re ruling out droids and talking main characters only.
Luke died in Episode VIII - The Last Jedi whilst Leia passed during Episode XI - The Rise of Skywalker, ruling them both out.

Poor Chewie endured so much. Even if we’re not counting C-3PO and R2-D2, at least our favourite wookiee had his droid friends to talk to about all of his experiences.
If you’re craving a little dose of Star Wars content, I can only praise the recently released LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past.
It’s a fun and silly little series you can enjoy as we embark on the final countdown to The Mandalorian and Grogu which lands in cinemas on 22 May 2026.
