Star Wars viewers have only just clocked that two characters are closely related, but to be honest, we get it.
The Star Wars canon spans many centuries of lore, and there are thousands of characters, locations, and events to keep track of. Even the most dedicated of fans are going to miss obvious details at times.
And when it comes to characters that are distantly related, it can be easy to miss one of these obvious details, especially when it’s not really brought up in the films themselves.
As posted on the Star Wars Reddit page, one user has posted about how they feel “stupid” for only just realising that Padmé Amidala and Ben Solo (A.K.A. Kylo Ren) are related by blood.

For context: Padmé marries Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones. They go on to have two children, Luke and Leia. By the time of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which takes place around 50 years later, it’s revealed that Leia had a son with Han Solo, named Ben.
That would make Padmé the grandmother of Ben. It’s a detail that seems pretty obvious on the surface, but considering the character only appears in the prequel trilogy, and barely even gets a mention in the other films, it’s the kind of thing you don’t really think about.

“I mean it's a fact that I subconsciously accepted, but had never actually given much thought to,” writes Star Wars fan Prestigious_View3317 on Reddit.
Meanwhile, a user in the comments by the name of chrishemsworth_ (who we’re guessing isn’t the real Chris Hemsworth’s Reddit account), provides some context to explain why this is the kind of detail you don’t really think about.
“Well the sequels take place like half a century after Padme was dead in universe and outside of R2 no one knows who she was except historians probably,” they write. “It’s just one of those interesting things that you randomly realize about Star Wars and how it really is one family just wrecking everything and then dying dramatically.”
Padmé Amidala was played by Natalie Portman in the three films that make up the Star Wars prequel trilogy between 1999 and 2005. For this role, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Saturn Awards for Attack of the Clones.

Meanwhile, Ben was played by Adam Driver in Disney's sequel trilogy, a role that saw him nominated twice (winning one of them) for Best Supporting Actor at the Saturn Awards.
