The Batman was a successful overall debut for Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, with The Penguin series doing a great job of extending the wider story outside of the main movie series.

With those in the rear view mirror, attention has inevitably turned to the next film in the series and what exactly it will look like under the overall guidance of DC Studios boss James Gunn.

As part of that, journalist James Sneider confirmed that the sequel is set to start shooting next Spring, ahead of a full release in October 2027. That wasn't the biggest revelation though, with Sneider also claiming that Batman's tights-wearing sidekick Robin is also set to appear this time around.

Obviously, the overall mood and aesthetic of director Matt Reeves' Batman will likely give us a very different Robin to what comic readers might expect, the decision to include him has also divided the opinions of the audience.

Over on Twitter/X under a post sharing the news, several fans shared their thoughts on his upcoming appearance. "Make Robin an adult and not dressed like a road flare and I will approve of his inclusion," one said.

Another was considerably less positive, saying, "Nooooooooo, Bruce is so early in his Batman’ing." Others simply lamented Joseph Gordon Levitt being too old to play the hero these days, after his appearance in The Dark Knight Rises. The revelation at the end of that movie confirmed his character was called Robin, but he never appeared in any real capacity as Batman's actual sidekick.

There also hasn't yet been a greenlight for a second series of The Penguin, though Sneider did go on to say that the show is part of the studio's "10 year plan." Whatever does materialise, fans have a long time to wait before they can actually see what DC and Warner Bros. are cooking up.
